Happenings from the Halpin Centre
HALPIN flies the NMCI and Ireland Flags at Nor Shipping 2017
[Oslo, June 1st 2017]
Centre Manager, Cormac Gebruers spent 4 days in Oslo this week at one of the World's largest shipping trade shows - Nor Shipping. HALPIN attended the show to represent NMCI and to support the launch of the Marine Ireland brand. Marine Ireland is a new collaborative effort between a number of Irish state agencies; the Irish Maritime Development Office - IMDO, Enterprise Ireland - EI, the Industrial Development Authority - IDA and coordinated by the recently established Marine Development Team - MDT. The launch was extensively supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs through the Embassy of Ireland in Norway and by EI's Nordic office and by the Irish Naval Service who sent the L.E. Niamh that hosted a reception during the event. The Marine Ireland stand at the show was a huge success with many contacts being made by the Irish companies and organisations who attended.
On Tuesday morning, the first morning of the show the stand was visited by His Royal Highness, Crown Prince Haakon the heir to the Norwegian throne who was greeted by His Excellency Karl Gardner, Irish Ambassador to Norway. On Thursday morning Minister Pat Breen, T.D., Minister for State for Employment and Small Business visited the stand. Minister Breen spent over an hour talking to the companies and organisations exhibiting and in particular had a lively and engaging discussion with the principle of SEFTEC Ltd., Darran O'Sullivan about the challenges and opportunities of exporting globally as an Irish maritime technology company. The Minister was also most interested in learning about the opportunities being pursued by the NMCI around the World and questioned at length about the challenges the College faces in delivering its full potential. In the photograph above, Minister Breen accompanied by the IMDO Director, Mr. Liam Lacey discusses NMCI with the HALPIN manager, Cormac Gebruers. ENDS NNNN++++
