Work Experience for the Next Generation - Transition Years 2018

February 2018

[Cork, February 4th 2018]
innovation2018 One of our favourite weeks of the year is when we host our annual group of secondary schoool transition year students. This year we had another four fantastic young people come work with us for the week; Amy, Eve, Jack and Rachael. From three different Cork secondary schools, the four students were a credit to their schools and themselves. Over the course of the week they threw themselves enthusiastically into every task they were set. No job was too meanial and every task was tackled with care, attention and often quite innovatively. It's always great fun and indeed educational for the HALPIN team to throw open our doors to young minds. Their often different take on the World is a reminder to us all of the importance of listening and considering other persepctives. Over the course of the week, each of the students at different times reminded us by both their words and actions why we should "trust in youth". The wise words of Theodore Rosevelt always come to mind during transition year placement week at HALPIN "We can't always build the future for our youth but we can build our youth for the future." The Transition Year programme is of great importance and utility in the education of our young people. Each year we get to meet and spend some time with young adults who are figuring out their place in the World and what they might like to do in their careers. We consider it a great privilege to be able to support them in some small way in making these important choices and in helping them to build their confidence to be who they are. It's a two way street though - in return we always learn something new and are reminded of important things that we've forgotten.
